Mindfulness 101 + Technique

Silence is a way of reconnecting with us and promoting overall wellness in our minds. Throughout the day, we easily become too distracted with everything in our lives; : work, traffic, family, dinners, groceries, bills, payments, kids, school, etc. When you get too distracted, you cannot take the time to reconnect with yourself and relax. Remember, that with every problem you come across, there is a solution – some may just be harder than others. With silence, you can easily take the time to reflect and quiet your mind. Once you’re relaxed, it is easier to find solutions. There are many ways whereto help yourself you can be silent whether it is through prayer, napping, turning off all electronic devices, or taking a break from social mediaetc.  I am going to talk about the main method I use to be silent.  My main method of silence is through meditation.

It took years for me to get to the point where I could start practicing meditation.  In fact, I wish that I had started practicing sooner.  Now that I regularly practice meditation, I cannot get enough of it, and it has become an important part of my daily routine.  I see meditation as having a personal relationship with yourself and as a way of ridding the mind of personal chatter. I do not want to say that I space out and let my mind go totally blank.  Any time I practice meditation, thoughts constantly creep up on me.  When this happens, I have learned over time how to focus my attention back to the present moment. Like exercise, meditation is a work in progress.  Some days after a session, I feel like I am on top of the world, but there are also days when I am just happy to be done with the session.  I would never give up on it altogether; I just come back the next day to start the session all over again.  My philosophy is, “if you can breathe, you can meditate.” Check out the video above
